350 CO Participates in Air Quality Control Commission Rulemaking Resulting in New, Tighter Rules.

DENVER—WildEarth Guardians today applauded the Colorado Air Commission’s approval of new rules to rein in the fracking industry’s air pollution, but cautioned that much more aggressive action is needed to safeguard clean air, climate, and health from unchecked oil and gas extraction in the state. “Today’s rules are a step forward, but to truly confront Colorado’s clean air and climate challenges, much more needs to be done,” said Jeremy Nichols, WildEarth Guardians’ Climate and Energy Program Director.

State Inaction After Finding Elevated Benzene in Greeley Due to Bella Romero Fracking Site

As many have likely heard, Colorado health officials are planning more testing after the state’s air monitoring lab measured a benzene level above federal guidelines at a Greeley school this month. On November 5th the lab measured a benzene level of 10.24 parts per billion at Bella Romero 4-8 Academy in Greeley, which is in excess of  the short-term health-based guideline for benzene, which is 9 parts per billion.
