How to advocate for the phase out clean up bill

✉ Contact Your Legislators: (Takes 10-40 mins)

The “Modifications to Processes in Energy and Carbon Management.” a.k.a. the Phase Out & Clean Up bill, in the 2024 legislative session, co-championed with WildEarth Guardians, is 350 Colorado’s highest priority as an organization, and many other groups share our urgency on this matter.

This bill will phase out the approval of new oil and gas permits by 2030, prioritizing disproportionately impacted communities for reduction, and enacting liability reform to ensure the industry—rather than taxpayers—will pay to clean up orphan wells and spills. It also has provisions for a followup on the study on how to support oil and gas workers and communities put in place last year by HB23-1074.

Well in ColoradoEPA Rejects Air-Pollution Permits for Oil, Gas Wells in Colorado

A recent win for clean air! “Without actual testing to ensure that oil and gas facilities are limiting pollution as the law requires, permitting becomes a rubberstamping paperwork exercise,” said Micah Parkin, executive director of 350 Colorado. “The EPA’s ruling ensures the oil and gas industry is held accountable for the damage it does to Colorado’s communities and air.”

The Case for Community Composting

Community composting is one of the most straightforward and impactful climate change solutions we can implement. “In the five months that my partner and I have used the service, we’ve diverted 85 pounds of food waste—the equivalent of 85 miles offset, 4,178 smartphones charged, and 38 pounds of burning coal avoided.” Read this piece by 350CO volunteer Kyle and learn more!
