Since Day one, Trump has tried to build the Keystone XL pipeline and promote the fossil fuel industry. From his executive order to challenging federal lawsuits, he’s doing everything he can to make sure TransCanada – the company behind the project –  can continue their plans to start construction
this year.

We’re up against powerful interests and must be ready for what’s to come. Together with Indigenous leaders, we’re launching a national training tour to prepare thousands to take mass action to stop Keystone XL, and every other fossil fuel project that comes our way.

Denver was lucky enough to host this training this last weekend at Four Winds American Indian Center. With over 150 attendees both days, we skilled up and expanded our ability to fight Big Oil at every level. The U.S. is now the number one producer of oil and natural gas in the world, and Keystone XL is the linchpin of Trump’s pro-fossil fuel agenda that’s harming communities and destroying the climate.

At the training, we learned about nonviolent direct action and support roles, protocols for mobilizing in Lakota territory, and how to apply these lessons to local campaigns, which we’ll need in order to create a nationwide wave of resistance against fossil fuel development in our communities. For more than a decade, Indigenous peoples, farmers, ranchers, and their allies have been fighting to stop this project. This 1,179 mile tar sands pipeline would transport 900,000 barrels of the world’s dirtiest oil per day from Alberta, Canada across the Midwest for export. It would be be “game-over” for the climate.

This Tour is a historic moment for Indigenous communities and their allies to come together in the fight for climate justice. Trainings will take place along the pipeline route and in nine cities across the country, preparing thousands of activists to be good relatives and stand up against this project.  350 Colorado was proud to host the Promise to Protect Tour in Denver alongside our indigenous partners. Thank you to everyone who attended and facilitated the training we are excited to see you at events around Colorado and if Indigenous leaders put out the call, we will see you resisting KXL!!
