To have arrived at the end of this incredibly wild year, is no small thing. December will hopefully be filled with time for reflecting, slowing down, and celebrating our victories where we can. We won’t miss the chance to celebrate this month’s Climate Hero either, the wonderful Finn Jackson!
Finn got his start in climate advocacy in college (about 6 years ago) where he led a campaign for his university to adopt a climate action plan. Since graduation, he’s been involved with many climate organizations (Laramie Alliance of Renewable Energy, Sierra Club Wyoming, Park County Citizens for Sustainability, Citizens Climate Lobby, and the Sunrise Movement).
It was in September 2023 that Finn then joined 350 Colorado. What started off with actions here and there quickly turned into a regular practice of organizing and connecting with the community.
He applied for and joined the Boulder County Team Leadership Council (LC) in February this year, bringing his experience in organizing and ‘roll your sleeves up’ attitude for getting things done. He has been a dedicated member since then!
Earlier this year once the legislative session kicked off, Finn was quite involved. His group of activists for Senator Fenberg was made up of both experienced and newer members. During Climate Lobby Day in March he navigated the day with his groups, strategizing for the meeting, supporting members, and being a part of the laid-back energy that made things go smoothly.
In June, Finn was a part of the team that helped put on the Climate Leadership Workshop in Longmont, a day of connecting and skill building with other organizers. He agreed to help present material about different leadership models and strategy within organizing, and lead some group discussions. Needless to say, he did a fantastic job! He even arrived bright and early before it all began to support logistics and set-up. Finn was a major part of the success of the day!
Growing the movement of people that are contributing to helping in the climate crisis is special work, and it can be challenging at times. Yet Finn has stepped up multiple times to help with Boulder County local team efforts to recruit and connect with new people in our communities. He is knowledgeable, thoughtful, and easy to talk to, a great combination for being a catalyst for good!
“Finn is one of the most reliable, kind, unwavering people I have ever met. Organizing with Finn is a privilege, because of the level of stability he brings! 350 Boulder County is lucky to have him.” – Melissa, 350 Boulder County Team Coordinator.

So much of the joy of organizing is doing it with other people you’ve come to know and trust. The practice of showing up time and again. Finn’s reliability helps things go so much more smoothly! When he has signed up for something, he will be there.
Finn works at EcoCycle’s Hard-to-Recycle facility in Boulder. When he’s not sorting trash, on or off the clock, he spends his free time reading, playing piano, tinkering with his bikes, exploring new and delicious food, and spending time outside any way he can. His volunteer activities have included connecting like-minded community members and lobbying state and national legislators.
Thank you so much Finn! Your on-going efforts in local team activities and campaigns, and consistently showing up is so very needed in fighting the climate crisis. We admire the many ways in which you have made an impact in Colorado and beyond!
