350 Roaring Fork protests, 2022

There are always ways we can jump in and take action in order to effect positive change – and this month has no shortage of opportunities! The below events and petitions are ways you can take action this December, whether you have 5 minutes or 5 hours. Only have a moment to spare? Focus on signing and sharing these two petitions: Petition against the Guanella CAP& sign the petition against the Uinta Basin Railway.

Here’s all you need to know to take action this month:
  1. SIGN & SHARE A SUPPORT LETTER FOR A JUST TRANSITIONSign the support letter for a just transition and a phase out of new oil and gas permits by 2030 here.
  2. SUBMIT A WRITTEN COMMENT BY DEC. 2: Cumulative Impacts Rulemaking Petition – There is still time to submit comments! Huge shout out to 350CO Climate Policy Analyst Heidi Leathwood for getting the process simplified at the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC). Toolkit is here with all you need to know in order to submit a comment!. Deadline to submit comments is Dec 2 and the meeting to discuss will be Dec 9. They are NOT taking spoken comments during the Dec 9 meeting which makes submitting written comments doubly important.
  3. JOIN AN ACTION SESSION ON GUANELLA CAP (DRILLING PLAN) ON DEC. 1, 6pm – A coalition of groups is hosting brief fracking 101 and public comment training for folks in Northern CO (and elsewhere for those who want to learn more) ahead of the Guanella CAP hearing (Dec 7). Here’s the facebook event and registration – please share! –  Also – here is the petition against the Guanella CAP from CO Rising. Sign and share! It would be great to deliver a petition with at least 466 signatures – one for every fracking well they are considering.
  4. JOIN A PUBLIC COMMENT TRAINING & FIGHT FRACKING IN AURORA – BPUF and 350 are hosting an in person training for public comment and fracking info session this Saturday Dec 2 from 1-3pmHere’s the registration form. There will also be a virtual session that goes in depth into the COGCC permitting process and forced pooling hosted by a coalition of groups specific to the Lowry Ranch CAP. That will be on Dec 17. More info to follow.
  5. FIGHT THE UINTA BASIN RAILWAY OIL TRAIN – There are so many ways to fight the oil train coming up! There’s a webinar with Halt the Harm on Dec 7 from 6-7pm (registration here), there are actions in Boulder, Denver, Roaring Fork and around the country to bring attention to this issue. If you haven’t signed the petition please do so!!! We have a group delivering it to the USDA in DC (because Secretary Vilsack can still revoke the permits).

The Uinta Basin Railway/Oil Train impacts the entire country – and could increase our national GHG output by 1% – so share the petition widely within your groups as well as outside of Colorado. This train adversely impacts us all.

As always, thank you from all of us at 350CO for all you do! Questions or ideas? Email info@350colorado.org
