MAY ECO-CHALLENGE: ACTIVISM!

Use your voice.  Stand up for your beliefs.  Connect with your community.

The mission of 350 Colorado (350CO) is to work locally to help build the global grassroots movement to solve the climate crisis and transition to a sustainable future. 350 Colorado has established itself as Colorado’s largest grassroots network focused on taking action to stop climate change.”

The power of the people and our voice is how we expect to influence the fossil fuel industry.  We are dedicated to our 3 primary goals of 1) movement building, 2) opposing extreme energy and 3) promoting local solutions.  MOVEMENT BUILDING is the backbone to our success, and therefore the most critical.  We need YOUR help to show the fossil fuel industry that we want to #keepitintheground; that we want better local solutions that are renewable, and create a more sustainable future for all of us, and future generations.

This is going to be one of the largest mass mobilizations for climate action in the history of Colorado. It is part of a global wave of powerful grassroots actions. Here in Colorado, we are taking action to defend our communities from the dangers of fossil fuel extraction on our lands. We are sending a strong message to our state leadership that we must break free from fracking our public lands and communities! Together, we can be a powerful voice for the just transition to a 100% clean energy economy!

This month’s challenges include:

  1. BLM: Keep It  In The Ground!

May 12th @12pm – at the Holiday Inn Denver Lakewood (7390 West Hampden Ave., Lakewood, CO 80227): This country is at a crossroads – we can either continue auctioning off public lands for fracking, or we can decide to keep over half of fossil fuels in the US underground forever. The Bureau of Land Management intends to auction off our public lands to oil and gas companies, and the movement intends to be there to tell them to keep it in the ground! May 12th BLM #KeepItintheGround action

  1.  Frontline Fracking Defense

May 14, 2016 @sunrise – until… in the Thorton (Details TBA): Colorado is also at a crossroads – The fossil fuel industry is invading our neighborhoods and suing our communities when we try to protect ourselves with bans or moratoria. We can lie down, or we can rise up to defend our health and homes, our atmosphere held in public trust, and our children’s futures. We will mobilize to protect a community working to defend itself from fracking near Denver. Please join us as we welcome the dawn and help create a vision of the world we all want to see. Come prepared to stay a while!  May 14th Frontline Defense Break Free action

  1.     Attend your local 350 meeting this month. Activism isn’t only about the big events, but about creating a strong community that consistency stands together for social, economic, environmental justice, and more! Come share your voice, and your opinion with others who want to make a positive change in the world.

  1. Share your voice – in your own, passionate way.  After last month’s challenge to reduce your waste, are you now wishing your local grocery store had more bulk? Are you wishing that businesses you visit practiced more zero waste principles? Activism isn’t just about the big collaborative events, but about standing up for what you believe it, what you want for your community, and voicing your opinion respectively, yet assertively.  Your voice matters – practice using it.

TOGETHER, WE CAN AND WILL CREATE POSITIVE CHANGE!

Looking forward to Breaking Free with you in May!
