What: Renewable Energy Summit with a focus on ‘Moving Beyond Fracked Gas,’ co-hosted by 350 Colorado’s Renewable Energy Committee, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Boulder’s Climate Action Ministry and Physicians for Social Responsibility, Colorado.

When: Saturday, Oct. 26th, 2019, 1-5pm – to include panel discussion, breakout sessions and individual home retrofit case studies.

About: This summit is free and open to the public and will be an opportunity to learn about renewable energy solutions and how to support the just transition to 100% renewable energy in Colorado. We’ll hear from a panel of speakers on opportunities to reduce energy consumption and transition to clean, renewable energy as rapidly as possible, with a focus on emerging alternative solutions to fracked gas usage in our homes and daily lives that can be implemented now widely and affordably. We will also learn about Boulder’s new Climate Mobilization Plan and how individuals and groups can best support our local transition to renewable energy.

The summit will also serve to:
-Advance understanding of need for renewable heating standard in our state
-Offer solutions: what are key ways for individuals to take action
-Consider alternative heating solutions (electric, solar thermal, etc)
-Create space for intensive thinking sessions
-Expand and convene coalition of orgs & individuals working on these issues
-Discuss what incentives are available currently to the individual to fuel-switch. Incentives are key to adoption

Breakout Sessions Include:

“Moving Our Electric System Beyond Coal and Gas” – with Leslie Glustrom, Founding Member, Clean Energy Action 

This workshop will discuss the need for transformation at the systemic level, highlighting what is going on with our utilities and Xcel. In 2018 Xcel was 40% coal and 33% fossil methane in Colorado. We’ll discuss how to best pressure our electric utilities to transition beyond fossil methane and fracked natural gas.

“How to Achieve Carbon-Free Homes” – with Dr. Catherine Thomasson, former Executive Director of Physicians for Social Responsibility (PSR) National and current board member of PSR Colorado 

This workshop will address the scope of the problem of over-reliance on fossil fuels, and what policies are working. We’ll also discuss health impacts of methane gas combustion in homes and how to overcome roadblock to policy change and personal choice.
