Week of Escalated Actions Sept. 21-29

Our house is on fire and it’s time we acted like it.
Colorado’s Climate Strike will kick-off a week of mass, escalated actions to demand climate action at scale with the crisis: no new fossil fuels leasing or development, just and equitable climate solutions, and accountability for fossil fuel companies responsible for the climate crisis.

All WEEK – MMIW Red and Black Dress Art Installation
From Thursday, Sept 19 – Sunday – Sept 29 – The International Indigenous Youth Council in partnership with the Colorado Climate Strike Coalition are presenting an art installation in Denver on the 16th Street Mall to bring awareness to Missing and Murdered Indigenous, Black, and Migrant Womxn and children. Red and black dresses will be displayed around the mall with the names and ages of missing and murdered individuals.
Keep an eye out for the red and black dresses throughout all of our escalated actions. Share on social media to help show that the Colorado climate justice community stands firm behind the belief that social justice is tantamount to climate justice.

Sept 25 – Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission Hearing

Join us to keep the pressure on the COGCC and remind commissioners and the oil and gas industry that it is time to enact a clear transition plan away from fossil fuels in our state and to address climate change now.
Please join in offering public comment at the hearing, keeping the pressure on and ensuring that our SB19-181 is not only upheld, but also that oil and gas permitting is paused during the new rulemaking process. Click here to RSVP

Sept. 26th – Suncor Action – Demand Clean Air

The Suncor Energy oil refinery, in Commerce City just North of Denver, continues poisoning communities and contributing significantly to the climate crisis. Suncor has repeatedly violated its air pollution permits, releasing hundreds of tons of dangerous, smog-forming chemicals each year, leading to numerous health problems for the surrounding community.
Join us at 5 p.m. on September 26th as we demand Colorado adopt a Green New Deal and close the Suncor refinery, converting to 100% renewable energy and a just transition of Suncor’s workers and the communities most affected by its pollution. Click here to RSVP!

Sept. 26 – Climate Mobilization Action Plan Launch

Join the city and partners in launching the next phase of climate action! This event will start the community-based process to create the Climate Mobilization Action Plan, or CMAP. Some focus areas include: energy systems, ecosystems, circular materials economy, climate finance and land use.  Learn more about CMAP and register for the event here.
