Please join us in calling on Governor-Elect Jared Polis to take meaningful action to protect Colorado communities from fracking and to address climate change through a just and equitable transition to renewable energy. Sign the petition here.

This fall, over one million Colorado voters showed their support for 2500′ oil and gas setbacks from homes, schools, playgrounds, water sources and other vulnerable areas through votes in favor of Proposition 112. The measure came within just above five percentage points of passing despite an unprecedented $40M opposition campaign from the oil and gas industry. This is a strong message from Coloradans demanding protective action now.

We are incredibly grateful to the thousands of volunteers who made up this grassroots campaign, and all the ways in which our 350 Colorado network statewide – all of you – represented! Millions of people are now awakened to the dangers of fracking, thanks to extensive local, state and national coverage of our efforts. The industry’s social license to pollute and wreak destruction in our communities and on our planet has been called into question.

The outcome of this month’s election does not change the fact that oil and gas operations are dangerous and should not be happening so close to Colorado homes, schools and drinking water. It doesn’t change the fact that the recent IPCC report tells us that we must stay below 1.5C if we are to protect a planet capable of sustaining life as we know it – and to do that the vast majority of fossil fuels must stay in the ground and we must transition to 100% renewable energy by 2035.

We are calling on our new Governor-elect to take swift measures to address these concerns – and to take bold action to protect Colorado communities from irresponsible oil and gas operations and to promote a just, timely transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy.
