OCTOBER ECO-CHALLENGE:

Ditch the junk mail, and more!

Every year, more than 100 million trees are cut to produce junk mail!

  • And for most of us, the junk leaves the mailbox and heads straight to the recycling bin.  This month, let’s aim to skip that step, and stop junk mail from being sent to us at all.  Boulder’s company Eco-cycle has made the steps easy for everyone to reduce their junk mail.  See below for all the various ways you can stop the unnecessary mail.
  • And, we challenge you this month to also reduce similar “junk” – receipts, paper towels, napkins, and plastic (saran) wrap.

Start today!

  • Stop the flooding of mail by removing your name from mailing lists: click here!
  • Stop credit card solicitations: call 1-888-567-8688 or visit here
  • No more phone books or catalogs: Opt out
  • Choose the charities you wish to contribute to, and reduce the ones you receive via snail mail
  • Get off ALL direct marketers’ lists, ValpakValassis Direct Mail – Epsilon Data Services > email them with “remove” in the subject line.  Follow other details at Eco-cycle’s website
  • Turn down receipts when shopping – ask for an emailed receipt if possible, or record your total on paper or your phone.
  • Ditch the paper towels and napkins!  Use cloth dish towels, rags, and cloth napkins.
  • And lastly, ditch the plastic wrap for leftovers and more. Check out Bee’s Wrap for an alternative solution or purchase glass bowls with lids!

BONUS:  Attend a guided tour of the Recycling Center in your local area.
